One thing was crystal-clear at Technekes’ recent All Hands meeting at Castle McCulloch in Greensboro: None of us needs to be giving up our day job to seek architectural fame and fortune!
We did, however, have the opportunity to learn more about the future of Technekes, get to know each other a little better, and even worked together to construct castles for charity. As a team-building activity, we used K’nex construction toys to build “castles” meeting three criteria: each had to have at least four walls, one tower and one moving part. At the end of the day, the toys were then donated to two charities, including a local Boys & Girls Club in Raleigh, and to Thompson Child & Family Focus in Charlotte.
Rachel Eldridge, volunteer manager at Thompson’s St. Peter’s Lane residential campus, which serves children who are “fragile, bruised, or broken,” said the children will be thrilled.
We also are thrilled – not only because the Thompson kids and Boys & Girls Club members are so deserving, but because it seems far more likely that there’s a budding Frank Lloyd Wright among them than among us!
